What is a Shaman?

For me, being a shaman is a way of life.

One of the highest compliments I can receive is when someone notices that I am the same person outside of a session that I am during one. I don't put on my spiritual beliefs for my work and then take them off when the session ends.

This is how I live.

My path began through the teachings handed down to me by the Medicine Woman who first set me on this path. Over more than 40 years, that path has continued through study, practice, teachers, traditions, travel, experience, and working with others.

What Shamanism Means to Me

Shamanic traditions have existed in many cultures around the world, and those traditions are not all the same.

At their core, the practices I have studied recognize a relationship between the physical world and the world of Spirit. Shamanic practice provides ways of working with that relationship through ceremony, journeying, energy work, prayer, sound, ritual, and connection with the natural world.

My Work as a Shaman

My role is to use what I have learned and developed over a lifetime of practice to help people see their circumstances differently, understand what may be standing in their way, and determine what comes next.

Sometimes that happens through an intuitive reading. Sometimes through energy work, ceremony, Soul Retrieval, Condor Medicine, or another shamanic practice. Sometimes my role is simply to teach someone how to do the work for themselves.

The method changes.

The purpose remains the same: use what I know in service to the person in front of me.

A Path of Practice

After more than four decades, I am still practicing, studying, teaching, and learning.

That's important to me.

Shamanism isn't something I finished learning years ago. It is a relationship with Spirit, practice, responsibility, and the way I move through the world.

It isn't something I do. It is part of how I live.
