I have to admit that one of my little pleasures in life is seeing the look on the face of someone when they read a form that I fill out. Under occupation I simply put Neo-Shaman. Granted, “other" would have done the job, but I never pass up an opportunity to spark a conversation about the subject of Neo-Shamanism. The reactions range from curiosity and intrigue to fear and skepticism. All of which are very understandable. Shamanism has actually been practiced in virtually every culture since time began.  The distinction of Neo-Shaman stems from the fact that I serve society in the same way that Shamans have throughout time but that I do so in a multicultural, multifaceted sense of spiritual understanding in a completely modern context.

As a Neo-Shaman, my primary role is to be the go between for the Spirit World and people living in our very modern world.  I am often teased about talking with a client about a traditional ceremony or practice and then booking the session on my Blackberry.  I grew up with technology.  When I’m not with a client or doing yoga or meditating I am usually at my computer.  This has allowed me to reach out to people all over the globe.  Having grown up in the United States, I found myself surrounded with many different beliefs and spiritual practices, all of which have influenced my Neo-Shamanic identity and pathway.  Through study and experience I have learned that Spiritual Truth knows no denomination, nor is it owned by any one group of people and that anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is speaking from ego and control.

In my Neo-Shamanic work I am a counselor and religious figure who performs sacred rites and ceremonies, offers guidance through intuitive readings and manipulates energy for the sake of healing and manifestation.  I also interpret visions and dreams and perform soul retrievals, chakra balancing and guided meditations for those who seek.   I am intimately connected to the forces of nature and the elements and follow the seasons and the cycles of the moon and sun. I use many tools, such as the rattle and the drum to help connect to the divine. It is this connection with Grandfather and Grandmother that allows me to pierce the veil between the worlds and affect change in the waking reality.
